It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 12th INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON MARINE
TECHNOLOGY - MARTECH 2025.
Hosted by AZTI in Pasaia, this year´s workshop will cover a wide range of topics related to marine technology, from robotics, sensors, innovative platforms, and communications to smart bays, international observing initiatives, data products and services, AI, and digital twins. In addition, we will explore together several case studies on the innovative use of technology in various marine environments and its impact on research and industry. Overall, the conference will showcase advancements in marine technology and its applications in environmental monitoring, fisheries, and oceanographic research, among others.
With the Scientific Committee's help and your contributions, we have created a comprehensive programme featuring five sessions of talks, two poster sessions and three plenary talks provided by recognized keynote speakers. Each session aims to share the newest research on marine technology but also to encourage discussion on the state of the art and future opportunities in our field. The Organizing Committee has also arranged coffee breaks, lunch breaks and a social event for networking and informal discussions, which I hope will offer opportunities for enjoying and relaxing among peers.
The symposium also aims to provide you with the opportunity to connect with the Basque Country people, and specifically with the Oarsoaldea region and the Bay of Pasaia. Marine related economic activities are a priority for this region, leveraging technological innovation to reinvent traditional sectors and create new opportunities. In the aim of contributing to its transformation, The Basque Government together with AZTI, the Oarsoaldea Agency and Pasaia Port Authority, promoted the "Technological and Industrial Hub for Blue Economy Development in Oarsoaldea". The primary goal of this project was to create a competitive technological space to better address global change and the challenges and opportunities of a more circular economy. I hope MARTECH 2025 will help to provide visibility to the Bay of Pasaia as a location for blue economy development and the implementation of best practices in this field.
